Documentary set to explore George Miller’s aborted Justice League Mortal

May 25, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2007, Warner Bros. announced that Mad Max creator George Miller had signed on to direct a motion-capture Justice League movie, which was going by the title of Justice League Mortal.

The project made it as far as pre-production, with a a cast that was set to include Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Batman, D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Superman, Megan Gale (Stealth) as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody (The O.C.) as Barry Allen, Anton Yelchin (Hearts in Atlantis) as Wally West, Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max) as Martian Manhunter, Santiago Cabrera (Heroes) as Aquaman and Common (American Gangster) as Green Lantern, before Warner Bros. decided to pull the plug on the superhero ensemble.

Well, it looks like filmmakers Ryan Unicomb, Aaron Cater and Steven Caldwell are set to delve into behind-the-scenes story of the aborted film, with the trio planning a new documentary entitled Miller’s Justice League Mortal, which has been announced today.

“We wanted to get the story out there to help us to gauge interest,” states Unicomb. “I have always been fascinated with project, which would be in the same vein as 2013’s Jodorowsky’s Dune and this year’s The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, about a Superman movie that Tim Burton was to direct in the 1990s.”

According to Inside Film, “the plan is to interview some of the cast and crew who would have worked on the film and gain access to never-before-seen artwork and costumes”, although the filmmakers are yet to approach Miller or anyone involved with the film, so it looks like there’s a long way to go before this documentary becomes a reality.
