Dracula film The Last Voyage of the Demeter adds David Dastmalchian, Liam Cunningham and more

July 2, 2021 by Ricky Church

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that André Øvredal’s Dracula-inspired The Last Voyage of the Demeter has added several actors to its cast. Joining Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins in the film is David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale) and creature feature actor Javier Botet (It).

Also starring in the film are Jon Jon Briones (Ratched), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool), Nikolai Nikolaeff (Daredevil), Woody Norman (The War of the Worlds), Martin Furulund (Monster) and Chris Walley (The Young Offenders).

The Last Voyage of the Demeter follows a single chapter in Bram Stoker’s classic horror novel Dracula. The Demeter is a merchant ship that unknowingly transports Dracula from his home in Transylvania to London and feasts on the crew one by one during the journey. The Demeter “washes up on the shores of England, tattered and broken, with one raving-mad survivor.”

Dastmalchian will play Wojchek, the Demeter’s first mate, while Cunningham is the ship’s captain. Franciosi plays Anna, a stowaway. Briones is the ship’s cook with Kapicic and Nikolaeff as crew members.

Botet, who has starred as various monsters in It, The Conjuring 2 and Øvredal’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark among several other horror and science fiction films, will portray the legendary Dracula.

The script was originally written in 2002 by screenwriter Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) with Bullet Train writer Zak Olkewicz having written the latest draft. The film has had several homes and attached directors over the years. The Last Voyage of the Demeter will be produced by Bradley Fischer, Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer for Amblin.

Production on The Last Voyage of the Demeter has begun in Berlin and will later move to Malta.
