Edward James Olmos to return in Blade Runner 2049

March 14, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Actor Edward James Olmos is going to be returning to his Blade Runner role for Blade Runner 2049.

Edward James Olmos has recently grabbed a part in Sons of Anarchy spin off series Mayans MC and now the actor has confirmed that he will be once more be playing Gaff in Denis Villeneuve ‘s Blade Runner sequel, Blade Runner 2049 – a role he initially portrayed in Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi classic.

The film has managed to get Harrison Ford to return to his starring part from the first movie, and the actors will join Ryan Gosling in what really is a stellar line up.

Olmos revealed his return to TheTRENDTalk in a recent interview, stating that: “I signed a seven page non-disclosure contract. I did, my manager did, my agent did, everybody did. I couldn’t talk about it. I couldn’t talk about it to anybody about it. Guess what? This is the first time that I’m telling the whole world, that yes, I am going to be Gaff in Blade Runner 2049.”

Olmos also went into a little detail about his part, adding: “Well, it’s not about Gaff, but it’s about someone who is going to try to find out certain things about us back then. My role is like it was in the original – that time I only had four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it’s a poignant little scene.”

It’s for this reason that so many have such faith in Villeneuve in bringing back this most adored of properties. The fact that Olmos is back even just in a tiny role, is a nice nod of the head to the movie’s history, letting fans know that he gets it.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 is set for release on October 6th and sees  Harrison Ford reprising the role of Rick Deckard alongside Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto and Edward James Olmos.
