Elizabeth Debicki cast as Princess Diana for The Crown’s final seasons

August 17, 2020 by Ricky Church

Netflix has announced the latest addition to its cast for The Crown’s fifth and sixth seasons. Joining the series is Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet) who will star as Princess Diana alongside Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) as Queen Elizabeth II, Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) as Princess Margaret, and Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) as Prince Philip.

“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many,” said Debicki. “It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”

As has been common throughout the series, the fifth season will see another jump in time with new actors portraying the Royal Family. Debicki will take over the role of Princess Diana from Emma Corrin (Pennyworth), who will play her in the upcoming fourth season.

The fifth season will jump forward in time once again, taking place in the 90s with the sixth and final season said to conclude in the early 2000s.

The fourth season, which will premiere on Netflix later this year, will see Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) join the series as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin (Pennyworth) as Princess Diana, while returning cast members include Olivia Colman (Queen Elizabeth II), Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret), Josh O’Connor (Prince Charles), and Erin Doherty (Princess Anne).
