Emily Blunt says Edge Of Tomorrow sequel script is “really promising” but scheduling is still an issue

December 9, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Since Edge of Tomorrow was released back in 2014, there has been plenty of demand for a sequel to Doug Liman’s time-bending sci-fi action film. However, with Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, and Liman’s commitments to other projects and franchises, the sequel is yet still to come to fruition.

Now, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Blunt offered an update on the status of Edge of Tomorrow 2 – a.k.a. Live Die Repeat and Repeat – by stating that screenplay is “really promising” but scheduling is still proving to be an issue.

“Yes, it’s really promising and really, really cool,” Blunt said. “I just don’t know when everything’s going to sort of align, you know what I mean? Between all of our schedules, it would just have to be the right time. But there is something in the works, for sure, that’s a great idea. A great idea.”

Blunt has also previously joked that she and Tom Cruise might be much older by the time the sequel hopefully goes into production, jokingly comparing it to Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman.

“Tom and I are going to be 70 before we make another one,” she said. “It’s going to look a bit weird. We’ll have to do a real flashforward one.” The actress added with a laugh, “We’ll go full Irishman, it’ll be the Irishman version of Edge of Tomorrow. Who knows? I hope, I’m going to talk to Doug about it [at the A Quiet Place: Part II premiere].”

Do you think a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow will happen? Are you still excited about the prospect of another instalment? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…
