Exclusive: Anthony Mackie on the Marvel and DC “rivalry”, and his favourite Batman

February 10, 2016 by Gary Collinson

2016 is shaping up to be another busy year for Anthony Mackie. This month he’s set to feature as part of the cast of John Hillcoat’s star-studded crime drama Triple 9, and will also be reprising the role of Falcon in May’s Captain America: Civil War.

At today’s UK press junket for Triple 9, Flickering Myth’s Scott Davis spoke to Mackie, and while he wasn’t giving anything away about Civil War – save for the fact that he’s seen the film and “fans won’t be disappointed” – the star did share a few thoughts on the perceived “rivalry” between Marvel and DC, which he said he finds amusing: “It’s still strange to me that people think DC and Marvel are rivals, thinking we sit on the Marvel sets talking (trash) about DC.”

Mackie also spoke briefly about Warner’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and whether he’s Team Batman or Team Superman: “If I had to pick, I’d pick Batman… Michael Keaton is my favourite Batman, though if I got to hang out with Morgan Freeman for the rest of my life, I’d be happy!”

Triple 9 is set for release in the UK on February 19th and in the US on February 26th with Captain America: Civil War following on April 29th 2016 in the UK and May 6th 2016 in the States.
