Exclusive Interview – Fatima Camacho on One Million Poets

August 20, 2022 by admin

In an exclusive interview, Flickering Myth sat down with Fatima Camacho to talk about acting, extensive training and her role in the drama One Million Poets…

Welcome to Flickering Myth. Tell us a little about yourself!

I was born and raised in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Ever since I was a little girl I loved to perform (I would dance and sing in front of my family), and when I was 6 years old my mom took me to a musical theater academy, and I was there for almost 8 years. After I graduated school, I moved to Buenos Aires, and I took acting classes along with directing classes. And a year after I arrived to Los Angeles to study film and work, and I’ve been here for almost 4 years.

How important is training for you?

Very important. I think taking acting classes and courses really help you discover more about yourself and how you can approach different characters.

Tell us about the film, ‘One Million Poets’ and your role.

So One Million Poets was directed by Marc Simon, and it follows the story of a depressed alcoholic novelist, who has the worst case of writer’s block, and an uncanny disregard for critics on his journey to confront his recent past and discover the real culprit behind his wife’s early demise. It is a drama movie and I play alongside Riley Rae Baker and Dan Pousson.

How did you prepare yourself as an actor?

Well, I was actually a last minute call, so I really didn’t have much time to prepare. I was originally working in the costume designer department, and they were still casting for the Paramedic role, and they ended up telling me that I was a perfect match for the role. And that was just a few days before the actual shoot. So, I guess I prepared mostly physically since I was supposed to hold a fake baby and I never held one before. I had to get used to that, but once I had the paramedic uniform it felt very natural to me.

What makes a good filming environment for you?

I think that a good filming environment consists of respect and communication. I think that feeling comfortable on set is very important since it is a place where us as actors have to be so vulnerable.

What’s been the pros and cons of pursuing your acting career?

I think the pros are that it allows you to open up freely, you can be creative without being behind a desk 9-5, you can pretend to be someone else and let your emotions free without judgment. I think one of the biggest cons is that it is a hard job, especially in this industry where there is a lot of competition, and it doesn’t bring you as much income as other jobs.

Who are your acting influences growing up that helped to mold you into who you are today?

I think I took a lot of inspiration from Rachel McAdams and Saoirse Ronan. They are my favorite actors in the industry.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

I think that it is important to keep pushing and working hard for whatever that you want in life and to never give up.

Finally, how can people find and follow your journey?

I keep up to date with my latest projects on IMDb, Instagram, and Facebook

Our thanks to Fatima Camacho for taking the time for this interview.
