Exclusive Interview – Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch on action scenes, Deadpool’s future and Martin Scorsese

December 2, 2019 by Tom Beasley

Tom Beasley chats with Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch about the film’s unhinged, brilliant action sequences, as well as the future of his various franchises and Martin Scorsese’s controversial comic book opinions…

Fans went in to Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw expecting insanity – and they were not disappointed. With the dynamite chemistry of action men Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason “The Stath” Statham at its heart, the film was an odyssey of vehicular carnage in which the titular duo squared off against Idris Elba’s villainous super soldier.

Behind the camera was David Leitch, who co-directed John Wick with Chad Stahelski and has since gone on to helm eye-catching action in Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. To tie in with the DVD and Blu-ray release of Hobbs & Shaw, Leitch flew into London and had a chat with Flickering Myth about his film’s ambitious action, as well as his other ongoing projects and Martin Scorsese.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw saw the return of Dwayne Johnson (Luke Hobbs), Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw) and Helen Mirren (Magdalene Shaw), alongside franchise newcomers Idris Elba (Luther), Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan) and Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver).

Hobbs & Shaw is available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download now.
