Exclusive Interview – Producer Charlotte Hendrickx Talks Kicking Off Awards Season

November 10, 2022 by Gary Collinson

When it comes to making award-winning films, Charlotte Hendrickx is no stranger! After the success of her previous films Enough and Pure Modern Love, Charlotte has been bitten by the “awards bug”. The multi-talented producer and actress has just completed several projects that are currently in full swing on the festival circuit. And its only the start of awards season! We caught up with Charlotte to chat, movies productions and more.

Welcome to Flickering Myth! Tell us about the movie The Spell That Backfired?

Hi, thank you. The Spell That Backfired was directed by Rayna Campbell and tells the story of a young woman who uses a magic spell to get back at her ex-boyfriend, but gets more than she bargained for when the spell takes another turn.

From the start on its festival tour the film has been a success story. Tell us about some of the awards.

So far the film has scooped up several awards and we are so happy. Besides winning an award for best actress, award for best romantic comedy, the film has also been able to write numerous other awards under its name. Just this week, the film received honorable mention at international film festivals such as Milan Gold Awards, London and Tokyo International Monthly Film Festival. It’s just the beginning.

You are on a roll right now. What other projects are you working on?

Last month I completed the post-production of one of Ten Whys. That film is now starting its festival run and this week it has already received its first official selection for the Rome Prisma Film Awards. Ten Whys follows Aden Emili, a lawyer who has just moved to Minnesota after a police officer confesses to the murders of 45 black men, and is now preparing for the biggest interview of his life. It’s very now and relatable.

Early next year, shooting will start in Los Angeles for the next feature Polly and Sue starring Rayna Campbell and Donna Preston. The film was selected for We Film Good platform at the Cannes Film Festival. It’s a story of two girlfriends who take a road trip to deal with the latest difficult developments in their lives, in search for freedom and spiritual enlightenment.

Asided from all that, I am working on international feature films scheduled to be shot in Jamaica and Bolivia. That promises adventure. Stay tuned on those details.

Many thanks to Charlotte Hendrickx for taking the time for this interview.
