First trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man teases horror shift, can it save the franchise?

July 2, 2024 by EJ Moreno

With the second reboot of Hellboy already here, can a change of tone be what the franchise needs? In the first trailer for the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man, the vibe is set instantly, and it seems like the action-adventure is no more and it’s pure horror now.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is directed by Brian Taylor and co-written by original creator Mike Mignola. As the film pulls inspiration from the comic book miniseries of the same name, we can expect something unlike anything we’ve seen before, and this is undoubtedly that.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man sees Hellboy stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia with a rookie BPRD agent. They discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man. The film stars Jack Kesy as the titular Hellboy, with Martin Bassindale, Jefferson White and Adeline Rudolph rounding out the cast.

During the first look, we see a more horror-inspired tone and plot. Hellboy and a rookie Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) agent team up to protect Appalachia from the Crooked Man (Martin Bassindale), a soul collector for the devil. Watch the trailer here…

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set for a release later in 2024.
