FX chief says it was Marvel’s decision to scrap Donald Glover’s Deadpool animated series

August 5, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in March of this year, it was announced that the planned Deadpool animated series from Donald Glover and Stephen Glover would not be moving forward, with the network releasing a statement citing creative differences.

The news came as a surprise, especially as the project had already received a ten-episode order, and now FX boss John Landgraf has revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour that the decision to scrap the series was entirely down to Marvel.

“Marvel controls the IP and the decisions around the IP,” said Landgraf (via Deadline). “It was their decision not to go forward with Donald and Stephen’s version, I personally liked it.”

There had been some hope that Marvel would shop out the series to other potential outlets after the FX split, but given that it was their decision not to move ahead, it now seems highly unlikely that we’ll ever see the Glovers’ take on the Merc with a Mouth.
