Gerard Butler set for comedic action thriller Empire State with Den of Thieves director

May 19, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Gerard Butler is set to reunite with his Den of Thieves director Christian Gudegast for the comedic action-thriller Empire State.

Written by S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) and Brian Tucker (Secret Invasion), the film will see Butler playing a Navy SEAL turned New York firefighter who has to put aside their differences and relationship troubles with NYPD tactical official Dani and work together when the Empire State Building comes under attack by a military contractor hellbent on revenge.

Butler and Gudegast are coming off working together once more on Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which is expected to release later this year. Butler meanwhile has just wrapped the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, and is currently shooting Greenland: Migration, the follow-up to the 2020 disaster film, where he reunited with director Ric Roman Waugh and co-star Morena Baccarin.
