Gillian Anderson joins TRON: Ares cast

January 24, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The cast for TRON: Ares is gaining new stars each week and the latest is an X-Files and Sex Education alum as Gillian Anderson has signed on to the cast of the third TRON movie, joining a gaggle of names that includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters.

Details of Anderson’s character are still under wraps, like much of the mysterious TRON 3 details. The actress is coming off her roles in The Crown, Sex Education and The First Lady and will soon star in the upcoming feature films Scoop and The Salt Path.

The screenplay for TRON: Ares was written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne and will “focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.” We alsolearned from the director that the “movie is about AI and what it means, and takes, to be human.”

Jared Leto will play Ares, the sentient program, in the film which officially began production this week. Starring alongside Anderson and Leto are Greta Lee (The Morning Show), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Evan Peters (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Cameron Monaghan (Shameless), and Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets).

As yet, there is no official release date set for TRON: Ares.
