Godzilla vs. Kong 2 working title hints at what to expect from Adam Wingard’s Monsterverse sequel

August 3, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

As much as a film about two squabbling Kaiju can sneak up on you, the story that Warner Bros. Godzilla vs. Kong sequel was heading down under to shoot a sequel before the end of the year was quite a surprising one.

Well, now that filming is underway on the Adam Wingard directed follow-up, a tweet from the set appears to have revealed the films working title, which hints at what kind of story we might be getting in the latest installment of the $1.9 billion grossing franchise.

As you can see from the post below, a clapperboard can be seen with Adam Wingard’s name emblazoned across it, along with the title ‘Origins’.

While it’s doubtful the this indicates that we’re getting a Wolverine style adventure based on the younger days of these two embattled warriors, you could speculate that this means the sequel will focus on the Hollow Earth, which appeared in both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, and is where these beasts come from.

Maybe we’re going to get a The Land That Time Forgot Doug McClure-esque adventure that takes place completely in this inner world? We can but hope, because let’s face it, there are only so many times you can watch these CGI monsters decimate a city.

All we definitely know about the film so far is that it reunites Adam Wingard with his The Guest star Dan Stevens, and that it will be stomping into cinemas on March 15th, 2024.

Godzilla vs. Kong was one of the first blockbusters to wade into the ruin of the pandemic-era cinemagoing landscape, and earned an impressive global haul of $468M, despite being available day-and-date as part of Warner Media’s 2021 release strategy.
