Greg Daniels reveals how Space Force will differ from The Office

May 28, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Greg Daniels, creator of Space Force, has revealed how the Steve Carell show will differ from The Office.

Greg Daniels has a pretty great track record for comedic TV shows, having adapted the UK version of The Office for US viewers and having then created Parks and Recreation.

Daniels is now re-teaming with Steve Carell for Netflix’s Space Force, a workplace comedy based around America’s newly formed branch of the military. But how different will it be from the likes of The Office?

Well, speaking to ComicBook.com, Daniels said: “Yeah, I think it’s more cinematic than The Office and Parks and Rec, as the subject matter is the whole branch of the armed forces and this mission. It depends. I mean, I think you’ll find a little bit similar, but it’s also just on a bigger scale. That’s a good question.

“I mean, there are some similarities and there are some differences. It looks more like a movie than a documentary. But on the other hand, it’s also a character comedy, which is similar.”

While the show clearly has a very different premise and visual style from The Office, fans will be hoping that it will be just as funny and entertaining as that aforementioned TV giant.

A decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance.

Space Force is set to premiere on May 29th and sees Steve Carell starring alongside John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow, Don Lake, and Lisa Kudrow.
