Hammer Films announces new 4K restoration of horror classic Dracula

May 26, 2026 by Amie Cranswick

Coinciding with World Dracula Day, Hammer Films has announced an all-new 4K restoration of its Christopher Lee-led 1958 gothic horror classic Dracula, a.k.a. Horror of Dracula, is coming to UK cinemas and home entertainment platforms this October.

The new restoration will present the classic film in its most complete form to date, reinstating footage previously only seen by audiences during the original Japanese theatrical release and believed to have been lost for over six decades.

“Bringing Dracula back to audiences in 4K goes far beyond a piece of film restoration work,” said John Gore, CEO of Hammer Films and John Gore Studios. “This is the recovery of a piece of British film history that audiences believed had been lost forever. Seeing Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing together again in such extraordinary detail is a reminder of just how powerful this film remains nearly seventy years after its original release.”

Dracula marked Christopher Lee’s first outing as the dreaded Count, reuniting him with The Curse of Frankenstein director Terence Fisher, writer Jimmy Sangster, and co-star Peter Cushing, who takes on the role of Dracula’s vampire hunter nemesis Professor Van Helsing. Check out the new 4K restoration teaser trailer here…

Dracula is returning to cinemas in the UK this October.
