Harlan Ellison’s I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream arrives on consoles for first time ever

March 27, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Nightdive Studios has announced the release of the acclaimed 1996 point-and-click horror adventure I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series X|S and Playstation 4 and 5 consoles.  This first outing ever on console for the famed post-apocalyptic short story features the author (Harlan Ellison) playing the part of the all-powerful techno-god, AM.  Watch the new launch trailer below…

In I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, players are cast into the centre of the Earth to play as the five survivors who have been trapped in the bowels of the insane megalomaniacal, all-powerful A.I. AM. For the past 109 years these survivors have been tortured and toyed with by AM and his intense hatred of humanity. Now, in a final game for them, AM has devised a meta adventure-style quest for each of them with the tease of freedom if they succeed.

AM has designed a personalised psychodrama for each of the survivors exploring their greatest fears and feelings of guilt, and it is up to players to journey through each of these characters’ scenarios.  Players will discover the truth about the past of each survivor and unveil the reasons why AM decided to keep them alive and make them suffer. Can these survivors face their demons and beat AM at his own game?

Featuring:

  • Five different characters, each with their own story to discover and each in their own unique environment.
  • Challenging problems to solve that deal with powerfully charged emotional issues.
  • Provocative psychological and adult-oriented themes.
  • Fully digitised speech with over 40 characters, with author Harlan Ellison providing the voice of AM.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is available now on Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles. PC gamers can download the game from Steam or GOG.
