Harrison Ford overtakes Samuel L. Jackson to become the highest-grossing actor of all time

January 10, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Samuel L. Jackson has been knocked into second place in the list of the highest-grossing stars in Hollywood by another Star Wars veteran, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens propelling Harrison Ford to the top of the pile.

According to tracking site Box Office Mojo, Ford’s 41 theatrical releases have a cumulative gross of $4.747 billion, compared to $4.634 billion for Jackson’s 68 movies. Ford will most likely become the first actor in history to reach $5 billion, with The Force Awakens still going strong and looking all but certain of crossing the $2 billion mark, although Jackson’s ongoing Marvel contract as Nick Fury will surely see him reclaiming top spot over the next couple of years.

Here’s the top ten as it stands currently:

1. Harrison Ford: $4.7 billion ($4,705,443,139)
2. Samuel L. Jackson: $4.6 billion ($4,627,736,484)
3. Tom Hanks: $4.3 billion ($4,334,901,817)
4. Morgan Freeman: $4.3 billion ($4,316,238,806)
5. Eddie Murphy: $3.8 billion ($3,810,422,028)
6. Tom Cruise: $3.6 billion ($3,587,201,845)
7. Robert Downey Jr: $3.6 billion ($3,539,298,301)
8. Johnny Depp:$3.3 billion ($3,291,577,394)
9. Michael Caine:$3.3 billion ($3,291,167,699)
10. Gary Oldman: $3.3 billion ($3,279,320,299)
