HBO renews Westworld for third season

May 1, 2018 by Ricky Church

Just two episodes into its second season and the future of Westworld is official. It should hardly come as a surprise to anyone who watches the show, but HBO has renewed the sci-fi series for a third season.

The series was created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy based on the 1973 film of the same name by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton. Westworld stars an ensemble of actors as guests venture out to Westworld, a highly interactive reality park where guests can immerse themselves in the old Wild West with intelligent and realistic AIs called hosts playing along in the experience. Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, James Marsden, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson and Ed Harris star in the series with Anthony Hopkins having appeared in the first season.

“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” said Casey Bloys, President HBO Programming. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”

HBO doesn’t mention when the third season might premiere, but given the gap between the first and second season, its likely fans will be in for another long wait for the third.

Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Westworld season 2 airs on Sundays on HBO.
