Hooded Justice featured in Watchmen set photos as new character rumours surface

November 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Rather than a direct adaptation, Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen series is set to deliver a brand new story set in the world of the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons comic book series, albeit set in the present day. Nevertheless, it looks like we can expect to see plenty of callbacks and references to the original source material.

Spotted on set is an advertisement on the side of a bus for an in-universe TV show entitled American Hero Story: Minutemen, along with an image of Hooded Justice, the first ever masked adventurer in the Watchmen universe, and one of the founding members of the 1940s crime-fighting team The Minutemen.

One would have to assume that Hooded Justice won’t make an appearance in the series himself, given that he disappeared in mysterious circumstances in 1955 and was subsequently presumed dead, possibly at the hands of The Comedian. Although given how little we know about the series, it’s certainly possible that it could include flashbacks to the Minutemen era – perhaps even as faux clips from this American Hero Story series?

Meanwhile, in other news from the upcoming series, Slash Film has reportedly received confirmation on the rumours that Justice League star Jeremy Irons is portraying Adrian Veidt, a.k.a. Ozymandias; the site also reports that Jean Smart (Legion) has joined the show and will play an FBI agent called Agent Blake, speculating that the character could be related to Eddie ‘The Comedian’ Blake – perhaps even Laurie Juspeczyk, the second Silk Spectre, who was revealed to be his biological daughter.

Watchmen is slated to arrive on HBO in 2019, and features a cast that includes Regina King (American Crime), Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Don Johnson (Miami Vice), Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk), Louis Gossett Jr. (Iron Eagle), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman), Adelaide Clemens (Rectify), Andrew Howard (Truth or Dare), Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow), Frances Fisher (Titanic), Jacob Ming-Trent (White Famous), Sara Vickers (Endeavour), Dylan Schombing (Sharp Objects), James Wolk (Tell Me a Story), Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries) and Jean Smart (Legion).
