UPDATE: How I Met Your Mother spinoff to get another go with new writers

August 10, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The planned How I Met Your Mother spinoff is to receive another shot at life with new writers coming on board.

Not giving up the ghost quite yet, Fox is taking another attempt at bringing the How I Met Your Mother spinoff to TV screens. Titled, How I Met Your Father, the show was originally headed up by This Is Us co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger before that show took off.

With these two no longer available to work on the HIMYM spinoff, Fox chairman Dana Walden has told Deadline, “the studio will try (developing a spinoff) with different writers.”

“They will be starting from scratch,” said Walden. “It’s one that’s been slowly cooked. If it’s the right idea, the right execution, we’ll take that.”

UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that Alison Bennett (You’re the Worst) has now signed on to pen the script for the spinoff, with Fox TV President of Creative Affairs Jonathan Davis stating that: “We’re always on the lookout for fresh, new voices, and Alison’s work on You’re the Worst has been incredible. She is completely original, hilariously funny and a big, big talent.”

Whether or not anything will come of this attempt at bringing the sitcom to life will remain to be seen. Perhaps at this point they just need a bit of luck to see things through.
