Hunger Games prequels already in the pipeline at Lionsgate

December 9, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Lionsgate is already making plans to produce a series of prequels to The Hunger Games, focusing on the history of the Games and the Capitol.

Vice Chairman of Lionsgate, Michael Burns, told Variety that the franchise “will live on and on” despite the absence of any further Suzanne Collins novels to adapt for the big screen.

Burns added that “there would obviously be arenas” if the franchise decided to move into the history of Panem, given the mixed reaction to the third film in the franchise, which focused on the rebel movement within District 13 rather than the structure of a gladiatorial contest.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has already grossed in excess of $500m at the worldwide box office.
