Including The Defenders in Avengers: Infinity War was “a bridge too far”

April 27, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

While Marvel Studios has assembled the vast majority of its Cinematic Universe heroes for Avengers: Infinity War, their small screen counterparts weren’t so lucky with the likes of The Defenders and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sitting out the big battle against Thanos.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Infinity War co-writer Christopher Markus has suggested that the inclusion of Daredevil and company was simply “a bridge too far”:

“It’s hard to factor them in because that is what, five more heroes and you’re trying to blend them in and trying to get them, you know, we’ve taken some people off to the end of the universe but again, it’s a bridge too far, I think on a storytelling level.”

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige also addressed the possibility of a crossover between Marvel’s big and small screen properties, and while he didn’t dismiss the idea out of hand, it’s certainly not sounding promising for fans of the TV shows:

“I don’t know. It really remains to be seen. So much of what they’re doing has been set. We’ve already shot Avengers 4. So much of what we’re doing is set, but I just, I never say never, but I’m not sure when that would be.”

Would you have liked to have seen the inclusion of – or at least some reference to – The Defenders in Infinity War or elsewhere in the Marvel movie universe? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Terry Notary (Cull Obsidian), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Ebony Maw), Carrie Coon (Proxima Midnight), Michael James Shaw (Corvus Glaive) and Peter Dinklage (Eitri).
