It looks like Annette Bening’s Captain Marvel character has been revealed

January 31, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Warning: Captain Marvel spoiler follows…

While Marvel Studios has announced details for much of the cast of Captain Marvel, two roles in particular have been kept under wraps in Jude Law’s ‘Star Commander’ and Annette Bening’s mystery character.

Thanks to a Marvel Legends Series action figure, we know that Law is portraying the Kree warrior and Mar-Vell villain Yon-Rogg, and now it seems that another leaked piece of merchandise has confirmed the identity of Bening’s character.

As per the Captain Marvel Hero Storybook, it appears that – as speculated by many – Bening is playing the Supreme Intelligence, an A.I. which serves as the ruler of the Kree Empire. Take a look here, via MCU Eternal…

It’s quite a departure from the comics, where the character is portrayed as a giant floating green head, although it may well be that Bening is simply a humanoid avatar and we’ll still get to see the Supreme Intelligence in its original form at some point in the movie.

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) and sees Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) leading the cast as Carol Danvers alongside Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lashana Lynch (Fast Girls), Gemma Chan (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Algenis Perez Soto (Sambá), Rune Temte (Eddie The Eagle), McKenna Grace (I, Tonya), Annette Bening (American Beauty), Ana Ayora (The Big Wedding), Vik Sahay (Chuck), Kenneth Mitchell (Star Trek: Discovery), Chuku Modo (The Good Doctor), Clark Gregg (The Avengers) and Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald). It is set for release on March 8th.
