James Gunn confirms that HBO Max’s Peacemaker TV show will connect to the DCEU

November 13, 2020 by Samuel Brace

James Gunn, the creator of the Peacemaker TV show for HBO Max, has confirmed that the series will be part of the DCEU.

There are a lot of fans very excited to see James Gunn’s first foray into DC storytelling with The Suicide Squad. So, when news came that he was also heading a spin-off TV series about John Cena’s Peacemaker for HBO Max, that was simply icing on the cake.

Other DC TV shows haven’t been a part of the DCEU, such as the upcoming Gotham PD by Matt Reeves but Gunn has now revealed that Peacemaker will indeed be a part of the interconnected universe of DC films.

It won’t be some alternative universe or anything like, it will be fully connected with the films, as the director explained on Instagram:

“Thanks @HBOMax for being a great partner so far and letting us do something truly over-the-top. And, yes, for those of you asking, this show is connected to the DC film universe. I think we’ll be the first show to air that is.”

I get to share too much good news with you guys today. ALSO joining the cast of #Peacemaker is @ripfighter as Auggie Smith, @jenniferlholland , reprising her role as Emilia Harcourt from #TheSuicideSquad movie, and Chris Conrad as Adrian Chase/Vigilante. How could I not be stoked having the Terminator 2 and Dennis from my favorite Tv show ever – and of course Jenn – joining @johncena & @daniebb3 in our show. Thanks @HBOMax for being a great partner so far and letting us do something truly over-the-top. And, yes, for those of you asking, this show is connected to the DC film universe. I think we’ll be the first show to air that is. Correct me if I’m wrong @wbpictures gods!

Hopefully, fans respond well to Cena’s character in The Suicide Squad so that this spin-off show feels justified. From what we have seen of the film so far, however, there probably isn’t anything to worry about.

The Suicide Squad sees James Gunn directing a cast that includes Suicide Squad returnees Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, and Sean Gunn.
