James Wan on the emotional journey finishing Furious 7; update on The Conjuring 2 and a potential DC movie

Furious 7 doesn’t get a general release until April 3rd but if we are to believe box-office forecasts then it’s likely that the seventh movie in the series will destroy all previous records and become the most successful entry of the franchise to date.

Director James Wan recently spoke with ScreenCrush and explained how emotional it still is to watch the movie, especially the ending:

“Let me put it this way: I edited the movie, I shot the movie, I worked on the music… Yet, every time I watch the film it still hits me in a big, big way. The ending has such a huge emotional impact for me and I have such a hard time watching it. I have to get up before the credits start rolling and just walk away. Just walk the emotion off. Even now, the final shot we have in the movie has such a strong impact on me.”

Since it’s secret debut screening at the recent SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas many critics have been praising the action flick claiming that it’s a return to form for the series. But due to the untimely death of lead star Paul Walker in a car crash during filming many people believed that the movie wouldn’t get finished, including Wan himself:

“There were moments where I wasn’t sure how I could continue with this. I don’t mean that in a technical way, I mean in an emotional way. I didn’t know if I had it in me to pull the actors and the crew together. But it became very clear to all of us that we had to finish this movie for Paul. That was the most important thing.”

Wan also sat down with Collider to discuss the progress of his next movie The Conjuring 2. Wan stated that he has “been working very heavily on the script” and that one of the reasons why he wanted to return for a sequel was because he wanted to “nurture his baby.”

In the same interview the Australian born director was also asked about the rumours linking him with a Warner Bros./DC movie, with a coy smile Wan said, “Yeah, there are some that I like… I am open to all possibilities at this point.”
