UPDATE: Jason Momoa talks Aquaman’s look and costume in Justice League

October 20, 2017 by Gary Collinson

After a brief cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, actor Jason Momoa is set to bring the DC superhero Aquaman to life next month with the release of Justice League, and as we’ve already seen, we’re going to get a very different incarnation of the character to that of the comic books.

Speaking to DC All Access, Momoa has been chatting about Zack Snyder’s vision for Arthur Curry in the DC Extended Universe, as well as the work of costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

“Zack had the idea to put the tattoos everywhere and everyone wanted him to have a little bit of blonde in the hair,” said Momoa. “I just wanted him to have the Van Gogh green-colored eyes, where you can kind of get lost in them. You’re scared by it, but you’re drawn in. We put the contacts in, and I was like, wow. It’s kind of scary, but hopefully not too scary… Our costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, is just unbelievable. As far as the armor, it’s just gold and green and about 40 pounds of rubber. I don’t know what it’s made out of, really, but it’s heavy; it looks good; you put it on and just sink right into the character.”

Momoa has recently stated that the Arthur Curry we meet in Justice League is “not even really Aquaman yet”, but of course we also have next year’s Aquaman solo movie to look forward to, courtesy of director James Wan.

UPDATE: And via Total Film, here’s a new shot of Aquaman underwater…

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
