Could Jena Malone be playing Robin in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

October 10, 2014 by Thomas Roach

A few months ago actress Jena Malone was spotted on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which led to many fans believing that she was involved in the film somehow. She has previously worked with Zack Synder on Sucker Punch, although it was subsequently claimed that she was just been visiting the set. However fans have speculated that she may in fact be playing a female Robin, most likely Carrie Kelley from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and now the actress has posted this picture of herself on Instagram sporting red hair like the comic book character with the caption ‘Drastic times call for drastic measures’…

We know that Batman v Superman is still filming so there is a chance that Jena Malone could be heading to the set to play Robin. Synder has also stated that the film borrows heavily from The Dark Knight Returns comic which sees an older Batman take on Superman and features Carrie Kelley as Robin. As plenty has already been borrowed from The Dark Knight Returns, it would make sense to include a female Robin in the story as well. However it is important to remember that Jena could be dying her hair for another project completely, and it is simply a coincidence that she visited the set of the film a few months ago. There is much secrecy surrounding the project, and so we probably wont know if there is any truth to the Robin rumours for quite some time.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25th, 2016 with Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Harry Lennix (General Swanwick) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
