Jenna Ortega says Wednesday season 2 will feature more horror, less romantic plots

March 15, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Netflix’s Wednesday will focus more on the spooky and less on the kooky going forward.

In a recent pit stop to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jenna Ortega took time from hyping her number-one opening weekend film Scream VI to discuss the future of Wednesday. The actress says she wants the show to focus on less romance and more scares.

“We just started the writers’ room. I think we want to up the horror aspect a little bit and then get Wednesday out of the romantic situation, let her be her own individual and fight her own crimes,” says Ortega.

Ortega states that she only wants the best for the character; she adds that she’s “very, very protective” of Wednesday. She recently sparked some controversy when the actress claimed she changed the dialogue from some scenes without informing the writers beforehand; many felt she was overstepping her boundaries as an actress, but the results paid off as the Netflix series was a smash hit.

Ortega is currently starring in Scream VI, the latest installment in the slasher franchise. She stars alongside Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. She’s also been rumored to be joining the long-gestating Beetlejuice 2.

The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester alongside a cast that also includes Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.

Wednesday is streaming now on Netflix.
