Jennifer Garner thanks Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy for Elektra return in Deadpool & Wolverine

August 6, 2024 by Ricky Church

The last two weeks have seen Deadpool & Wolverine dominate theatres with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s long-awaited team-up as their iconic X-Men characters. Audiences had much more to look forward to though as the film not only paid tribute to Reynolds and Jackman’s time as Deadpool and Wolverine – particularly Jackman’s stunning 24-year career playing Wolverine – but to the rest of Marvel’s films produced under 20th Century Fox.

Deadpool & Wolverine included several cameos from Fox’s X-Men films as well as Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Blade. One of those cameos came in the form of Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, who she portrayed in 2003’s Daredevil and her own spin-off Elektra. Garner’s participation in the film was announced months ago, but it is only now she is able to speak openly about her return to the role.

In a lengthy Instagram post, which includes a video of Garner’s preparation and training as Elektra, Garner credits Reynolds and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for her return. The trio worked together on 2022’s The Adam Project and it was there they decided to bring Garner back as Elektra.

“I remember the moment @slevydirect and @vancityreynolds had the idea for Elektra Natchios to show up in @deadpoolmovie 3,” Garner wrote. “We were on the set of The Adam Project and they gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes— there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two.”

Her reprisal also included the return of her original Daredevil and Elektra stunt double Shauna Duggins, a fact Garner was quick to point out made Elektra’s return all the more meaningful to her.
