Joel McHale says Chevy Chase is not allowed in Community: The Movie

April 9, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Are you excited about the long-awaited Community movie? In Dan Harmon’s film version of the cult classic series, we’ll see the likes of Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, and more set foot on set.

However, McHale says one cast member won’t be seeing the community college again, and it’s unlikely to cause any surprise. Speaking with The Post, McHale offered some updates on the somewhat secretive production, and one thing we do know is not to expect any Chevy Chase.

“I don’t think he’s allowed to [return],” McHale tells the outlet. “I don’t think it would happen. I don’t think it is a thing. Obviously, his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in. I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested.”

While there hasn’t been any production movement, the actor also spoke briefly about the movie’s development: “I know that we’ve been saying stuff about it. But we have a budget. We are going to do it—it’s just getting the date and lining everybody up. It’s going to happen. I was 50/50, less than 50/50, a couple of years ago. But now, it’s real. So we just have to get the dates down.”
