A third season of AMC’s The Terror has been greenlit, with The Walking Dead and The Punisher‘s Jon Bernthal in talks to star.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The Insneider, Bernthal is currently in negotiations to play a role in the upcoming third season of the horror anthology series.
The Terror: The Devil in Silver will be based on Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel, The Devil in Silver, which (per Variety) “tells the story of Pepper, a working class moving man, who through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbour grim secrets, and perhaps even the very Devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hell-scape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity which thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls – but doing so may prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.”
Chris Cantwell, who previously worked on the superb AMC show Halt & Catch Fire, will write and executive produce the season alongside author LaValle. Destroyer‘s Karyn Kusama is attached to direct the first two episodes of the show.
Season one of The Terror premiered in 2018 and told the story of a British naval expedition stuck in the ice while searching for the Northwest Passage. The sophomore season, titled The Terror: Infamy came out in 2019 and focused on a group of Japanese-Americans who were put into internment camps during World War II.
The Terror: Devil in Silver will premiere on AMC and AMC+ with six episodes in 2025.
