Jon Watts on the possibility of Morbius, Blade and The Chameleon in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2

July 6, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Spider-Man: Homecoming is opening to rave reviews, and is set for a huge $200 million global opening weekend. Of course, because comic fans are an enthusiastic bunch, people are already talking about the sequel before the first movie has hit theaters. Specifically, what villains will director Jon Watts bring aboard for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2?

Speaking to We Got This Covered, Watts had this to say when the outlet asked him about the potential for using the vampire villain Morbius: “The tone of the character is pretty dark, but the vampire/Marvel Universe thing is pretty cool. Maybe we could get Blade to show up, too? That’d be neat.”

Watts was also asked, due to his work on the horror film Clown, what he thought about Silver-Age Spider-Man villain The Chameleon?

“Yeah, Chameleon’s cool. I wonder is it that cool of an ability nowadays? Like, we’d have to come up with a way to make him to be more than just that. But Chameleon is great and he’s also one of the earlier day villains. I mainly focused on the bad villains as just a joke because there are so many really silly guys. Like Big Wheel. [laughs] So I’ve kind of done the wrong research so far in who the next villain could be. Swarm… [laughs]”

Given Watts’ and Marvel’s desire to stay away from villains that have been done already, these character aren’t bad choices. Watts’ statement about Blade is particularly interesting, as Kevin Feige has recently said bringing Blade into the Marvel Cinematic Universe “would be cool” – and it has also been announced that another Marvel character will be teaming up with the wall-crawler for the as-yet-untitled sequel.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May, alongside Marvel veterans Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Chris Evans as Captain America. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green and Jennifer Connelly.
