Jordan Elsass exits Superman & Lois, Jonathan Kent role will be recast

August 17, 2022 by Ricky Church

As Superman & Lois is getting ready to begin production on its third season, word comes that Jordan Elsass has exited the series. Elsass portrayed Superman and Lois’ son Jonathan and the series will recast the role in the wake of his departure.

Elsass’ exit is abrupt as the cast and crew of the CW series have started returning to Vancouver to begin production. According to reports, Elsass did not return by the production’s deadline and Warner Bros. made the decision to recast.

In a brief statement, WB said “Jordan Elsass has notified the studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season three due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast.”

There has been no update from either WB or Elsass as to what his “personal reasons” are for not returning, but Deadline notes reports Elsass has been struggling with some mental health issues. Whatever the case, hopefully Elsass will get the help he needs.

Elsass was one of the series’ four main leads in the Kent family as Jonathan Kent, one of Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s twin children. He starred alongside Tyler Hoechlin as Clark/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois and Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent. The third season will premiere sometime in 2023.
