Jurassic World Dominion takes $389 million-sized bite of the worldwide box office

June 13, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Despite less-than-favourable reviews and an F-14 currently wowing atop the box office, everybody still walked the dinosaur this weekend as Jurassic Park Dominion grossed a Gigantosaurus sized $389 million worldwide.

Colin Trevorrow’s trilogy closer earned a whopping $143.4M at the domestic box-office, lifting it’s 10-day international total to $245.8M, and you don’t need to be an Ian Malcolm level mathematician to work out that’s an impressive $389.1M to date.

Dominion‘s Rotten Tomatoes score might be an indication of diminishing returns, but the like-for-like comparisons with its predecessors at the box-office underline what a success the threequel is. 2015’s Jurassic World was something of a Force Awakens for the franchise, reminding people why they loved dinosaur destruction on the big screen and subsequently opening with $208M. Fallen Kingdom wasn’t received as well, but still took $148M plus change back in 2018. Both went on to easily pass $1B at the box-office, which already feels a given for Dominion, especially considering its performance in China, where it took $52.5M, the best performance of any Hollywood import in the pandemic era.

The figures are also impressive considering Maverick is still performing loop-the-loops atop the box-office, potentially heading towards the $1B club as well. In its third weekend of release the 36-years in the making sequel napped a staggering $50M at domestic theatres, an amount some would have probably predicted would be its opening weekend tally. Instead Maverick now sits at $393.3M at the U.S. box-office, and $747M worldwide, and that’s without China.

There was also a milestone for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness this weekend, with the MCU entry eking out a few more dollars before it lands on Disney+ in a couple of weeks and taking its worldwide cume to $930.2M.

As always you can find all the stats and statistics over at BoxOfficeMojo.

This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely, and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe.

From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

The film features new cast members DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Emmy nominee Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81), Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Scott Haze (Minari), and Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). The film’s returning cast includes BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez, and Omar Sy as Barry Sembenè.
