Justice League producer discusses Joss Whedon’s involvement

May 26, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

Earlier this week Zack Snyder announced that he was stepping down as director of Justice League due to the rather sad news that his daughter had passed away back in March.

With the DC blockbuster gearing up for some reshoots, Snyder is handing directorial duties over to The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron helmer Joss Whedon, and producer Charles Roven has been chatting to Variety about how Whedon became involved with the film:

“We were saddened by the events that caused Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder to have to leave and turn the reins over to Joss Whedon,” said Roven at the premiere of Wonder Woman. “He was already working with us on some of the scenes for the additional photography that we’re gonna be doing shortly, and it was fortunate that Zack convinced him, and he agreed to step in and finish the movie, help Zack finish his vision, and we’re excited about that.”

As previously revealed, Whedon – who is currently developing a Batgirl solo movie – had been enlisted by Snyder to pen some additional scenes, and will now direct these in the UK, as well as completing post-production. However, Whedon won’t be putting his own stamp on the film as such, with Toby Emmerich revealing that “it has to adhere to the style and tone and the template that Zack set.”

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
