The DC team-up movie Justice League has dominated the headlines since its release, with a lot of negative reviews and a pretty disappointing opening weekend at the box office. Earning the least of all the DCEU movies, Forbes is now reporting that Warner Bros. is looking at an overall loss of between $50 million and $100 million. Uh oh. Read more here.
And that certainly won’t be helped this weekend, with Pixar’s Coco tracking to win the Thanksgiving box office weekend with $70 million over Justice League‘s $60 million. Read more here.
Despite all the negativity around Justice League placed squarely at the feet of Joss Whedon, the man behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer is still on track for Batgirl according to Entertainment Weekly. The report claims that Joss Whedon is actively writing the script, and that there have been no talks whatsoever about the director leaving, or being fired from the project. Read more here.
In other positive DCEU news, Chris McKay has promised a very different version of Dick Grayson in his Nightwing movie. “This movie will be different than LEGO Batman, different than any other Gotham based film or TV show and will be a wholly original look at Robin/Dick Grayson,” he tweeted. “Don’t lose hope.” Read more here.
Next month’s hotly-anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi has some big box office shoes to fill from Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ $2 billion, but early tracking is looking strong at around $200 million domestic. Should it achieve that, it would be just $7 million short of The Force Awakens and the fourth biggest domestic opening in history. Read more here.
EARLY STAGES FOR NEW STAR WARS TRILOGY
It was announced earlier this month that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would be working on a new Star Wars trilogy, and he’s revealed that he’s in the very early stages of development on it. “We’re gonna have to see. I’m just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be. But I can tell you this, what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world. There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it.” Read more here.
