When Disney first announced that it was producing Star Wars: The Force Awakens – then known simply as Star Wars: Episode VII – it was assumed by pretty much everybody that the new trilogy would feature the next generation of Skywalkers, focussing on either the children of Luke Skywalker or Leia Organa (and Han Solo).
Fast-forward a couple of years and with now less than three months to go until the film’s hotly-anticipated release, we still don’t know for sure whether that’s the case – especially as Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping things like characters’ second names very close to their chest.

However, speaking to The Costco Connection (via Comic Book), Kathleen Kennedy has now confirmed that The Force Awakens and its two sequels will introduce a new generation of the Skywalker line.
“The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 17th in the UK and December 18th in the States and sees J.J. Abrams directing returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), in addition to Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Ken Leung (Lost), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day), Simon Pegg (Star Trek) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
