Legendary nears deal for Pokemon live-action movie rights following hugely successful Pokemon Go launch

July 13, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Pokemon has been taking the world by storm following the launch of the hit mobile game Pokemon Go, and now it seems that the franchise could be heading back to the big screen, albeit in live-action form, with Deadline reporting that Legendary Pictures is nearing a deal with The Pokemon Company for the rights to a movie adaptation.

According to the site, the deal will likely be the biggest video game movie rights deal in history, and negotiations have been ongoing for several months, with all of the big players in Hollywood expressing an interest. However, it seems that Legendary has came out on top, and i is looking to close a deal.

Pokemon is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has enjoyed enormous success this month with the latest iteration, the augmented reality game Pokemon Go, which has led to a 33% jump in Nintendo’s stock value and sent fans into a frenzy as they try to catch them all.
