Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence to lead Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night

September 19, 2025 by Ricky Church

Legendary director Martin Scorsese is teaming up once again with Leonardo DiCaprio for his next film with Jennifer Lawrence joining. DiCaprio and Lawrence will lead What Happens at Night, an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s horror novel.

What Happens at Night follows “a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. They check into a cavernous, largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman and a charismatic faith healer. Nothing is quite as it seems in this strange, frozen world. As the couple struggle to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together.”

The script has been written by Patrick Marber (The Critic) and will be produced by Studiocanal with Apple Original Films in talks to also produce and finance it. Production is expected to begin January 2026.

This will mark the latest project Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked together on since their frequent partnership began with 2002’s Gangs of New York. In that nearly 25-year time, DiCaprio has led six of Scorsese’s films with the latest being Killers of the Flower Moon which was also produced by Apple. The duo will produce through Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio’s Appian Way.
