Linda Hamilton reveals what initially excited her about Sarah Connor’s role in Terminator: Dark Fate

February 26, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Linda Hamilton, the star of Terminator: Dark Fate, has revealed what about Sarah Connor’s role in the film had initially excited her.

While the reaction was more positive to Terminator: Dark Fate than other recent films in the franchise, the movie was still a disappointment at the box office, not living up to the highest standards that the series once upheld.

Linda Hamilton returned for the movie to play Sarah Connor but looking back, what excited her about Sarah’s part? Well, speaking to A.V. Club, she said:

“The fact that it launches from a completely new place, story-wise. That she’s no longer John’s protector. The future has treated her badly, and she is just sort of an empty shell at this point with nothing but vengeance on her mind. And really empty because she doesn’t even love humanity. She was a woman standing alone, trying to kill the machines and not at all a fan of people. So to start there and to certainly do my work as an actress and explore and build on my greatest disappointments and sorrows in life, and how that makes me walk and how that makes me talk—to be able to do that level of work was really appealing. Launching a different story and the character in a new place.”

It’s a shame the film didn’t quite hit home with audiences or rather, the franchise has lost its appeal. But what did you think? Was Dark Fate a worthy entry? Let us know in the comments below and on social media @flickeringmyth…

Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), with James Cameron producing, and sees Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) reprising their roles alongside new cast additions Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Lady), Diego Boneta (Pretty Little Liars) and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
