Lucy Lawless “would love to see” Xena reboot

August 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

A couple of weeks ago it was reported that NBC is in development on a “modern reboot” of the hit 90s fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess, only for star Lucy Lawless to dismiss the claim as a rumour. Now, speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Lawless has elaborated on her comments, stating that if a reboot is in the works, neither she nor her husband and Xena co-creator Robert Tapert are involved.

“There was a conversation they had a year ago, maybe longer, If there’s anything current going on, we’re not involved — we being me, Rob, Sam Raimi. But they could be doing it without us, they have the right to, don’t they? But we are not. I’d love to see it happen and I know that NBC wants to do it, but they’re just trying to find a way and a time. When I read [the report], I thought somebody — either from the studio or the agency — went, ‘Oh this is current.’ It’s not current. I’d like it to be. I keep trying. I would love to do a reboot getting Xena, Gabrielle [Renee O’Connor], Autolycus [Bruce Campbell] and Jox [Ted Raimi] back together, get that crew back together to solve some ridiculous problem. I’d love to do a TV movie or a movie, a limited thing.”

Are you excited about the prospect of seeing Xena back on the screen, and how would you feel if NBC went ahead without Lucy Lawless? Let us know in the comments below…
