Mark Hamill is concerned that the Star Wars universe will become oversaturated

March 30, 2018 by Jordan Jones

Are we at risk of the Star Wars universe becoming oversaturated? When Disney, and Lucasfilm first announced a brand new Star Wars trilogy, it’s safe to say that fans were elated. Just check YouTube for various compilations of fans bursting into tears at the first sight of the Millennium Falcon taking flight for the first time in years. These new films were an opportunity to move far, far away from the prequels, and give our original heroes some closure.

Now, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi have been released to the world. So has Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Oh! And Solo: A Star Wars Story is coming out in  less than two months. Also, did you hear about Rian Johnson’s brand new trilogy in the works as we speak!? A series of films from the Game of Thrones showrunners? Did you know that WE ARE GETTING A LIVE ACTION STAR WARS TV SERIES!?

You get it. So, should we be worried? At least one Star Wars icon is. Mark Hamill recently told CinemaBlend that he wishes Disney would let the franchise take a breath:

“I will say they should pace themselves, because you don’t want to over-saturate it. I said to Disney, ‘Really? Five months after we come out comes [Solo: A Star Wars Story]? Can’t you at least wait until Christmas?’ But they’ve got things booked – they’re doing Marvel and their own movies, so that’s beyond my [purview.]”

Hamill absolutely has cause for concern. No one wants quantity at the sake of quality with a franchise like Star Wars. However, has quality been sacrificed so far? That honestly depends on who you ask, and that topic is a whole other article in itself. These new films (so far) have proven to be just as polarizing — in their own way — as Episode’s I-III. One thing is for sure: Disney means business with the Star Wars franchise; hopefully the films will only get better with time.

A new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story features Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Tobias Beckett, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi’Ra, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, Ian Kenny (Sing Street) as Rebolt, Harley Durst (Wonder Woman) as Moloch, Jon Favreau (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Rio Durant, Tien Hoang (Now You See Me 2) as Moloch’s henchman and Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War) and Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
