Mark Ruffalo says a standalone Hulk movie might be too expensive to ever happen

February 22, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

There has been numerous rumours throughout the years about whether-or-not Mark Ruffalo would get to burst through his purple shorts in a standalone Incredible Hulk movie, but now even the actor himself appears to have come to the conclusion that it might never happen.

During an interview with GQ in which the Poor Things Oscar-nominee discussed everything from his villainous role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ critically-acclaimed movie, to the effect Marvel’s streaming strategy has had on the studio’s feature-film output, Ruffalo was asked whether he’d ever get the chance to return for an Incredible Hulk solo-outing.

Ruffalo replied “I’d love to do a standalone Hulk, I just don’t think that’s ever going to happen”. He continued to imply that the cost implications of creating the CGI used for the character would be prohibitive, saying “It’s very expensive if you did a whole movie, which is why they use the Hulk so sparingly. I priced myself out!”

He first appeared as Bruce Banner in 2012’s The Avengers, inheriting the role from Edward Norton, who played the character in the MCU’s only standalone Hulk film to date, 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Ruffalo followed this with supporting performances in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, as well as Disney+ limited series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and providing the voice for animated series What If…?

Would you like to see Mark Ruffalo finally given his own standalone Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let us know by visiting our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
