Marvel’s Kevin Feige dismisses rumour that Chris Evans is returning as Captain America

March 18, 2021 by Gary Collinson

A new Captain America is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Disney+ launches Marvel Studios’ second live-action series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but for a brief time in January it seemed as though the shield could have been returning to Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.

Deadline, which is usually among the most reliable of sources, reported that Marvel and Evans were in talks over his return as Captain America for “at least” one more outing following his Old Man Steve ending in Avengers: Endgame.

Evans himself was quick to downplay the report at the time, saying it was “news to me”, and now Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has addressed the claims during a promotional interview for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, stating that: “I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself.”

Of course, that’s not a definitive “no”, and it may very well turn out in time that we haven’t seen the last of Evans in the MCU, but at present it seems Marvel is happy to look to the future and the next generation of Marvel heroes.
