Marvel’s Kevin Feige really likes Deadpool 2’s MCU and DCEU jokes

April 26, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Kevin Feige says that he thinks Deadpool 2’s jokes about the MCU and DCEU are “very funny”.

Deadpool is well known for his ability to break the fourth wall and in turn making fun of real-world goings-on, especially in the realm of superhero films. The marketing for Deadpool 2 has continued this trend and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has told Cinema Blend how he has enjoyed the jokes at the MCU and DCEU’s expense.

“I thought it was very funny. I think that’s one of the great things about Deadpool, both in the comics and what Ryan has done with him in the movies, is you can break the fourth wall. They mention DC in the new trailer! They can get away with that, and it’s great. That was the only way to have done it, from the comics in the movies, and it’s great that they did. Versus earlier incarnations of Deadpool in earlier X-Men movies…”

But what about a Deadpool/MCU crossover once the Disney/Fox deal takes place? Feige says: “I mean, look – I can get excited about a lot of things. In this case in particular, there’s no deal until they say there’s a deal, so I’m not thinking about any of it, honestly, any more than I ever have, which is to say, of course, I would always think about it because I can’t help it. But not specifically, and between our premiere tomorrow night, Ant-Man and the Wasp finishing its cut, Captain Marvel filming, Spider-Man about to start filming, and us about to seriously getting in the cutting room on Avengers 4, there’s a lot to do.”

Marvel’s motormouth mercenary is back! Bigger, better and occasionally more pantless than ever before. When a super soldier arrives on a murderous mission, Deadpool is forced to think about friendship, family and what it really means to be a hero – all while kicking 50 shades of ass. Because, sometimes, to do the right thing you need to fight dirty.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Bedlam, Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) as Shatterstar, Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) as Russell, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider), Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde) and Bill Skarsgard (It) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 15th 2018 in the UK and May 18th in North America.
