The cast of Marvel Studios’ X-Men continues to assemble, with Deadline reporting that Karate Kid: Legends and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping actor Ben Wang has been offered the role of Bobby Drake, a.k.a. Iceman, in the MCU’s reboot of Marvel’s mutant saga.
While there’s been no official word from Marvel at the time of writing, the trade reports that Wang emerged as the number one pick for the part after testing alongside a number of other actors, which is believed to have included Gabriel LaBelle (The Fabelmans), Jackson Kelly (The Pitt) and Rhenzy Feliz (The Penguin). Should a deal close, Wang will become the second actor to portray Iceman in live-action, with Shawn Ashmore playing the character in four of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Iceman is one of the original members of Charles Xavier’s X-Men, having his debut in 1963’s The X-Men #1 as part of the team alongside Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel and Beast. All of those characters except Beast have been cast in the new film, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Sadie Sink as Jean Grey alongside Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Asa Germann as Angel.
Marvel’s X-Men is being directed by Thunderbolts* helmer Jake Schreier, while the cast also includes Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm and Adam Driver as the villain Mr. Sinister. Except more additions before filming gets underway early in the New Year ahead of a scheduled May 5th 2028 release date.
