Maul is back in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord trailer

January 22, 2026 by Ricky Church

Everyone’s favourite ex-Sith Lord is once again returning in April. Lucasfilm has released the first trailer for the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, following the former Darth Maul in the aftermath of the Clone Wars and the Jedi’s extinction as he tries rebuilding his criminal empire.

At this point in the Star Wars timeline, Maul was last seen escaping a Star Destroyer as the Clone Troopers tried killing him and Ahsoka Tano during Order 66. With his criminal syndicate in shambles following the Siege of Mandalore and his former master Darth Sidious ruling over the newly-born Galactic Empire, Maul must rebuild what he lost while evading the Inquisitors with a Jedi Padawan survivor.

Sam Witwer will reprise his The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels voice role as Maul. Joining him in the series is Gideon Adlon (Blockers) as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura (Civil War) as Brander Lawson and Richard Ayoade (The Bad Guys 2) as Two-Boots. Rounding out the cast is Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, David C. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is created by new Lucasfilm co-head Dave Filoni, which he developed to series with Matt Michnovetz. The series will begin on April 6th with a two-episode premiere on Disney+. The 10-episode season will end on May 4th, better known as Star Wars Day. Watch the trailer below…

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord picks up after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, for a pulpy adventure that finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may just be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will premiere on April 6th.
