Melissa Barrera fired from Scream 7 cast over social media posts

November 21, 2023 by EJ Moreno

We’re in a moment in Hollywood where actors fought against studios for better working conditions, but comments made on social media can get you fired.

Melissa Barrera will no longer be a part of Scream VII after showing her support and sharing her candid feelings in the wake of the Israel-Hamas War. Multiple outlets have confirmed the story, including The Hollywood Reporter.

One comment includes: “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she shared in an Instagram story. “Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”

Barrera has been very vocal about the situation, which has seen some celebrities receive hate for either being pro-Israel or supporting the Free Palestine movement.

Scream saw a reboot a few years back with the fifth entry that saw Radio Silence taking over from the late Wes Craven. Scream VI came out earlier this year, though contract disputes kept Neve Campbell from returning as the iconic final girl.

With Scream VII, Radio Silence has left the director’s chair with Happy Death Day filmmaker Christopher Landon taking over directing duties. Filming had not begun, and development had been slowed with the Hollywood strikes.

Spyglass has yet to comment on the situation.
