Michael K. Williams reveals details on his recast role in Solo: A Star Wars Story

March 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The Wire and Boardwalk Empire star Michael K. Williams was set to make his debut in the galaxy far, far away this may with a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story – at least, until the big director shake-up.

Following the firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Williams was unavailable for the Ron Howard-helmed reshoots, meaning that his part was recast with Avengers star Paul Bettany taking on the role of crime boss Dryden Vos.

Chatting on The Jim and Sam Show, Williams has revealed a few details about his character, and his relationship with two characters in Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo and Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra:

“He was extremely sophisticated. Very rich. He’d been around the world, older guy, and it was sort of a love triangle between Emilia Clarke’s character, Qi’ra and the young Han Solo,” said Williams. “Not where it was overtly a love triangle but there was definitely a pissing contest going on for the girl’s attention, and Vos is old and Han is younger so it was that thing also going on, like, ‘Young buck, I’ve been around the world.’ But he’s like, ‘The young chick wants the young buck.’ So there was a little bit of that energy going on. But the relationship was definitely on paper with Qi’Ra and Han Solo.”

Williams also spoke to EW about his regrets at not seeing his character make it to the screen, stating that: “What saddens me most is I was very proud of the work that I did. What I believe I have created with Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson and Alden… I thought it was some great work. We was on the spaceship, and we all had these amazing scenes together, and I thought it was a great opportunity, and I thought it was some great stuff. It’s unfortunate the world won’t get to see it.”
